An Ton, a Jefferson Class of 2013 alumna and sophomore at Wellesley College, passed away on Feb. 5, leaving the Jefferson community to mourn the loss of a well-loved student.

Throughout her time at Jefferson, Ton participated in clubs such as French Honor Society (FHS), Gay Straight Alliance (GSA) and Amnesty International.

On Feb. 11, Ton’s family will hold a viewing from 6 to 8:00 p.m. with a Buddhist ceremony from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The funeral will take place on Feb. 12 at 9:30 a.m. Both events will be held at the Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home in Fairfax, Va.

In remembrance of Ton, Jefferson’s Active Minds club encourages students to “wear purple in respect for An and as recognition for all those who struggle with mental health disorders,” according to junior Cheryl Mensah’s Feb. 8 post in the Active Minds Mental Wellness Week Facebook event. This day of dressing in purple is planned for Feb. 13, the last day of Mental Wellness Week.
