In remembrance of Wakefield High School junior Lucas Guajardo, who passed away on Sept. 11, Jefferson students wore tie-dye or green on Sept. 14. Guajardo’s passing left the community to mourn the loss of beloved student known for his contagious smile.
Those who wore tie-dye or green proceeded to Gym 2 to pose for a picture in memory of Guajardo, and to show their support for the Wakefield community. Students at Wakefield also paid their respects by organizing a candlelight vigil on the George Mason Drive side of the their campus on Monday. Guajardo’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to assist with funeral expenses and the healing process.
During his time at Wakefield, Guajardo was a running back on the high school’s football team, a member of the football, wrestling and track team and sang in the Madrigals choir.
“I think that participating in this event meant a lot to the deceased’s family and Wakefield High School because they now know they have the love and support of another high school and that Lucas’s death will be remembered,” junior Shweta Mohanty said.
