Starbucks closing stores for racial bias training

Starbucks is to close over 8,000 stores nationwide for employees’ “racial bias training” in a response to criticism after two black men were arrested while waiting at one of the coffee chain’s Philadelphia stores last week.

“Closing our stores for racial bias training is just one step in a journey that requires dedication from every level of our company and partnerships in our local communities,” said company CEO Kevin Johnson in a statement, with a similar sentiment in his video message: “I will fix this.”

TJ students and other customers alike won’t be having Starbucks on May 29, as the training is scheduled that day for over 175,000 employees.
