Spring sports are around the corner–on Feb. 14 or Feb.  21, students will have to turn in their physical, Emergency Care Form, and the concussion education forms in order to tryout for a spring sport. Sports available are Soccer, Baseball, Softball, Lacrosse, Tennis, Outdoor Track, and Crew.

Baseball

Last year, varsity baseball went on a 11-9-0 record while making it to the district semi-finals and losing to Justice high school 5-6. JV, on the other hand, went 9-4-0. Both teams had solid performances against other teams in the district. For students who wish to make the team this year, tryouts will be held from Tuesday, Feb. 19 to Thursday Feb. 21 after school from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the baseball field. In case of bad weather, tryouts will be held indoors at Gym 2 at the same time. 

Softball

In 2019, girls varsity softball ended 3-13-0 last year while JV Softball endeds 3-5-0. Varsity won over Falls Church twice and Justice once. They were defeated in the finals by Lee High School 7-13. JV won over teams like George Marshall, George Mason, and Annandale High School. Tryouts will be held from Feb. 24 to Feb. 25. Outdoor Track and Field

Jefferson outdoor track and field had a successful season last year. The group participated in 5A State Track and Field Championships after mens varsity track and field placed 4th and womens varsity placed 8th in the 5C North Region Track and Field Championships. Some sprinters participated in states. For people who wish to be on the outdoor track and field team, practices will be held from Feb. 24 to Feb. 28 and tryouts will be the week after. Boys Lacrosse 

In 2019, the boys lacrosse team ended with a 7-7-0 record eventually losing in the District Finals to George Marshall High School. Then, because they made it to the District Finals beating Edison in the Semifinals, boys varsity lacrosse played in the Region Quarter Finals against Stone Bridge. They lost 15-4. 2020 tryouts will be held from Feb. 24 to Feb. 28 on the Jefferson stadium field from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Questions should be directed to Mr. Hensley at [email protected].

Girls Lacrosse

Jefferson girls lacrosse ended with a record of 4-9-0 beating teams like Justice, Lee, and Wakefield in the 2019 regular season. Post season, girls varsity lacrosse won in the District Quarter Finals to Edison and eventually lost in the District Semi Finals to George Marshall. This placement led the team to go to the Region Quarter Finals where they faced Stone Bridge and lost. 2020 tryouts will be held from Feb. 24 to Feb. 28 on the Jefferson practice field from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. To tryout, you will need to bring a mouth guard, goggles, and a lacrosse stick.

Boys Tennis 

Last year, boys tennis went 12-0-0 beating every team in their bracket. Singles and doubles both qualified for states by winning Districts and Regionals. At States, the team performed very well and won. For those who wish to try out for the 2020 season, they will be held from Feb. 24 to Feb. 28 at Holmes Middle School from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. At the end of the week, the cuts will be made as this is a very competitive team to play on.

Girls Tennis

Last year, girls tennis went 13-1-0 beating every team in their district except for narrowly losing to Robinson 4-5. Then the team won Districts, Regionals, and then came as runner-ups in States. For those who want to try out, they will be held from Feb. 19 to Feb. 21. Questions can be directed to  [email protected].

Boys Soccer

The boys varsity soccer team was 0-13-0 last year while JV 1-12-0 last year. The boys varsity team lost 3-0 against Justice in the District Quarter Finals where they were knocked out for the running of District Champions. The soccer team will hold tryouts for JV from Feb. 19 to Feb. 22 at Holmes Middle School from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. For varsity, tryouts will be held from Monday Feb. 18 to Feb. 22 at the stadium and practice fields from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Questions can be directed to [email protected].

Girls Soccer

In 2019, the girls varsity soccer team had a record of 2-9-1. They lost in the Districts Quarter Finals to Falls Church High School 1-2. Tryouts will begin Tuesday, Feb. 19 and end on Friday, Feb. 22. 2020 tryouts start at 4:30 p.m.  on the stadium field. Bring water, cleats, shin guards and whatever else you want to bring. Crew

The Jefferson crew team has placed successfully over the last few years. They have won multiple state championships in the last few years and also have competed in prestigious regattas like the SRA and Stotesbury regattas. There are no tryouts as there are enough boats for everyone, but the registration deadline is Feb. 13.
