On October 8th, the FCPS School Board modified the TJ Admissions process by removing the test, as well as the application fee, in hopes of diversifying the TJ student body. Since 1985, the demographics of TJ have been primarily dominated by Asians and Whites, with a 73% Asian and 17.7% White student admittance percentage for the Class of 2024. We’ve heard countless takes from various perspectives, but one perspective has been significantly overlooked – the Class of 2025. So we sat down with prospective TJ applicants and current eighth graders Heidi Gilman and Pranav Sirigiri to discuss the revisions made by the FCPS School Board and hear their take.
