The BEYA Sustained Mentorship program features retired military professionals in STEM fields who share their experiences and answer questions about the admissions process, college life, and more. The mentors will meet with ten or so students during monthly asynchronous Monday meetings. Why should scientists care about the government? Sean Gallagher, the Senior Government Relations Officer at the American Association for the Advancement of Science, will be speaking on November 18th during both blocks about this topic. He will address how the government provides funding and opportunities for research and how government policy affects scientific research.
