On Nov. 10, as part of the marine field trip, students had the opportunity to visit the Chesapeake Bay and fish from the boat. Holding up the blue crab, junior Ella Tysse was able to identify the male blue crab by its sternum. “It was rare to find a male Blue Crab because it was wintry and they should be starting to settle down now, but it would be rarer if we find a female blue crab because they don’t really live near Maryland,” Tysse said.

From the boat, students were able to view Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. “We did some tests on the water as well as dredging up a sample to see some of the animals in a more enclosed area. Then, we took the boat further out onto the Chesapeake Bay and we did the same water sampling again to see what other organisms we could find,” junior Pollux D’mello said.
