Raising money for graduation and their senior prom, the 2025 Class Council held a Soak a Senior fundraiser event on the week of Oct. 21 during lunch in Nobel Courtyard. This allowed for underclassmen and seniors to buy a bucket, sponge or the hose and soak a senior.
A week prior, the Class of 2025 advertised the fundraiser via Instagram, giving the option for seniors to sign up. In the announcement, Class of 2025 included more information such as prices and the location of the fundraiser.
“I wanted to participate in the Senior Soaking fundraiser because it’s a great way to raise money for class council,” senior Abraham Agbota said. “I hope to get soaked in water and enjoy time with friends.”
The Senior Soaking fundraiser received praise from both the seniors getting drenched with water and the underclassmen paying for the water.
“It’s really fun that people are willing to pay so much to just throw some water on their friends,” senior Erin Stevens said. “It’s kind of counterintuitive but it does add a fun element of being able to come together and soak people.”
This fundraiser allowed the seniors getting soaked to connect with underclassmen.
“My friend is on [class council] and all of my friends were doing it too, plus it’s senior year, so I’m trying to do everything,” senior Fareeha Ava said. “I got a lot of buckets on me and it’s really cold today so I’m glad they brought [towels].”
Opting in to be soaked allowed the Class of 2025 to save up money for events such as their prom and graduation events.
“It’s actually a really good idea for fundraising because it’s not that much money to just use water and it’s a really fun and creative way to raise money,” Stevens said.
Planning for this event started in mid-Sept.
“I got this idea from a Tik Tok and I proposed it in one of our class council meetings,” class council secretary senior Kaiden Kerkulah said. “We figured out [planning] last week. It was pretty easy—we just turned on the hose, filled it up [and] got some volunteers.”
This fundraiser helped get the Jefferson community involved in creating memories for the Class of 2025.
The underclassmen get to see our tradition, so they can do it when they’re seniors,” Ava said. “[This event] brings the senior class together. A lot of people you aren’t usually talking [you start to talk] to.”
In addition to memories made, the fundraiser created a connection with underclassmen.
“It’s a really good way to create community because you can splash your friends,” Kerkulah said. “Especially when underclassmen splash underclassmen [creating] that older-younger sibling bond.”
