On Thursday, Oct. 31, Student Government Association (SGA) hosted the annual Teach-or-Treat event during lunch. Teachers presented students with a riddle, and students earned candy if they solved it correctly. Students were able to have a fun experience and learn something new. Similar to going Trick-or-Treating, students and teachers were able to dress up in costumes.
Teach-or-Treating was an enjoyable experience for both students and teachers.
“I loved talking to my teachers, seeing them dressed in costumes and answering questions,” sophomore Reem Mohamed said.
Not only did the Teach-or-Treat experience help students learn new things, it also allowed students to meet new teachers and connect with them, helping to bring the Jefferson community closer together.
“I loved roaming around with my friends,” freshman Nihira Gole said.
This year, students put more effort in the costumes compared to previous years. Along with the effort, a greater number of students participated in Teach-or-Treat.
“I’ve given out candy for a couple years now. I’ve noticed that this year students were dressed up in better costumes than last year,” English teacher Lona Klein said.
Although one might think that the candy might run out quickly, especially with the amount of students going around, some classes saw the candy last all the way through the event.
“I’m always surprised that the candy doesn’t disappear immediately,” Klein said. “The candy lasted most of lunch.”
As the quarter ends, many Jefferson students can be stressed about their grades. Holding events similar to Teach-or-Treat lets students take a breather and enjoy what’s around them, reminding them to take moments to relax even in the rigorous academic environment.
“With the end of the first quarter kids are really stressed about grades,” Reem said.
Teach-or-Treating with friends can help students develop a sense of belonging and remind them that they are surrounded by teachers and students with similar interests.
“This is a really cool TJ tradition, and I definitely think we should keep it going,” Reem said.
