The awaited release of “Fortnite Chapter 2 Remix” brings the game back to the second chapter of the game, but with the addition of famous music artists, like Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Ice Spice and Juice WRLD. Many of the chapter two locations have been renewed with inspiration from these artists. For example, “The Grotto” has been replaced with the “Spaghetti Grotto” featuring Eminem as an in-game enemy you can defeat to win his special branded minigun which spews out lyrics from his famous song “Rap God” when fired. Another new location is “The Doggpound,” featuring hit artist Snoop Dogg who can be defeated for “Snoop Dogg’s Drum Gun,” a fast-firing and high-damaging weapon.
The first week of the new season brought many players joy, especially considering that they were finally free from the previous Fortnite seasons which were generally hated among the playerbase. The disapproval of the previous seasons was due to the in-game weapons being completely unfair; players who randomly came across weapons like the “Chains of Hades” and “Nitro Fists” were able to win effortlessly against their opponents, providing unfair advantages to any player to come across them.
The “Chains of Hades” were whip-like weapons that could pass through player-built structures that normally protected players from oncoming attacks, like bullets. The “Nitro Fists” were very good in close combat on the ground, as players were able to rapidly punch their opponent for a lot of damage. Players were also able to flee from their opponents by punching the “Nitro Fists” into the sky and spamming the attack button, which made the gap between themselves and their opponent very big.
While it is cool to have these new features in the game, this season doesn’t feel that different compared to the original seasons it was based on. The most that has been added is a couple new locations and items, leaving the rest of the map untouched.
I don’t think the season is bad at all, but it strays from being what it was advertised to be: an older chapter of the game with a fun twist. Very little was added, and to top it all off, the older part of the game chosen was not great to begin with.
This season is based on seasons one and two of chapter two. The first season is infamous for lasting much longer than usual and for being utterly terrible. For reference, a typical fortnite season lasts around 10 weeks. Season one of chapter two lasted 18 weeks. To add insult to injury, the map was complete garbage, the weapons were bland, unoriginal and overall plain boring.
On the brighter side, season two of chapter two was borderline amazing, with extremely fun new items to use and locations to visit. The most notable things in season two were the many mythic rarity weapons you could find at locations like “The Rig” and “The Agency” after defeating the bosses that spawned there, and vaults, which were accessed at certain locations after defeating a boss for its keycard. Unlocking these vaults granted the player great items. In my mind, this made the 18 week period from the previous season worth it. This was one of the best seasons of Fortnite, and I very much enjoyed playing it.
This new chapter doesn’t provide the uniqueness that it should, and for a very unfortunate reason. The fun and unique features from season one and two of chapter two were replaced with very mediocre ones instead, like the few new weapons. The new chapter is stale, despite its potential for being a great chapter.
