Over 100 teams from 29 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands have been selected from the initial 725 teams to compete in the Team America Rocketry Challenge (TARC) finals. Two teams from Jefferson, TJHSST Team 3 and 4, each consisting of 10 students, will compete.
Teams qualified for the finals by scoring less than a 16.12 in one of three qualifying flights. Scores are determined both by the height achieved by a rocket and the time it takes to achieve that height. A lower score indicates a more successful flight.
“We’ve been doing this for 4 or 5 years now since our rocket club restarted. I’m excited because I personally think our teams are very capable and should do well. It’ll be neat,” coach Joe Woodford said.
The finals will be held again in Great Meadow Park in The Plains on May 11.
