On Sept. 26, school counselors met with the National Merit Scholar semifinalists to walk them through the application process to be a part of the finalist pool. Students looked at information on their laptops while the counselors elaborated and answered questions.

“The JLC presentation for National Merit Scholar semifinalists was a great time for semifinalists to come and ask any questions they had,” school counselor Kerry Hamblin said. “About the process, about the timeline, about what happens from here, and for those who haven’t started yet to get jumpstarted on the application process.”

This meeting gave students the opportunity to find out information they needed and wouldn’t be able to get on their own. There were 134 semifinalists named from Jefferson this year. The application to become a finalist is filled out online.

“They gave us the opportunity to ask questions and gave us information you can’t find on the website,” senior Simran Rohatgi said.
